I think this quote means that people can give you tips and a hand on how and what you want to become in character ,but its up to only you to take the opportunities and make the choices to form your final stage of character.

I believe that this prompt means that when you read you are exercising the mind and the same thing goes for excerise and the body. Both help to develop and better the body and the mind.
